Finale event of Porticando

This year’s edition of "Tre Istituzioni e Un Patrimonio", coordinated by the Cultural Heritage Office of Emilia-Romagna Region in synergy with the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna and the Municipality of Bologna, focused on the Porticoes, on the occasion of the inscription of the property “The Porticoes of Bologna” on the World Heritage List. The project included 5 restoration worksites and activities of Heritage Communication. The results of the project were illustrated on the morning of November 10th in the prestigious Stabat Mater Hall inside Archiginnasio Palace.

After the initial overview speech by Antonella Salvi from Emila-Romagna Region, who supervised the whole project, the floor went to the representatives of the institutions: Valentina Orioli, Councilor for Mobility with responsibility for the UNESCO property “The Porticoes fo Bologna”, Cristina Ambrosini, Head of the Cultural Heritage Office of Emilia-Romagna Region and finally Rita Finzi, President of the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna. Camilla Roversi Monaco, project coordinator within the Academy, introduced the various worksites, masterfully illustrated by the students who attended them. Starting from the restoration of the tabernacle of the 'Madonna with Child' in via Belle Arti 30, a fresco suffering from the wear of time as well as from the damage of graffiti, they moved on to the restoration project of the wooden portico of Palazzo Grassi in via Marsala, home of the Circolo Unificato dell’Esercito of the Emilia-Romagna Region. Then the restoration of paper materials, books and photographs was illustrated in great detail, with a reference to the numerous documents preserved in the historical archives of the Municipality of Bologna. Among these materials an outstanding photographic album dated 1937 contains a documentary campaign on the state of severe degradation of minor residential buildings of Bologna, probably intended to accompany renovations and demolitions, as the title "Waiting for the pickaxe blow" suggests. This album, together with two examples of Pio Pamphili's views, property of the Archiginnasio, also recently restored, were visible in display cases during the morning.

The activities of the art education workshop were very captivating, as their result was an e-book about the Porticoes of Bologna. Last but not least, the work that connected the single parts of the project, namely the documentation of the various stages of this project with the Audiovideo and Graphic Design workshop, was fundamental for dissemination of knowledge. The morning ended with short speeches by Clara Maldini from the Archiginnasio Municipal Library and Maria Beatrice Bettazzi from the Portici Patrimonio Mondiale Office who illustrated the value of the pieces exhibited in the display cases.
