From June 3 to 5, 2025, the city of Gothenburg (Sweden) hosted the third consortium meeting of the European project REALLOCATE, in a symbolically rich context marked by World Bicycle Day and World Environment Day. The event brought together active participation from partners, experts, and representatives of the involved cities, offering three intense days of exchange, inspiration, and collaboration.
On the first day, the activities kicked off with a warm welcome from the host city at the Universeum Science Centre. Participants enjoyed an immersive screening in the WisDome dome, followed by a presentation by Johan Rehngren, landscape architect of the City of Gothenburg, who illustrated the ongoing urban transformations. A special welcome was extended to advisory board members Blanca Valdivia and Melissa Bruntlett, as well as to representatives of the “cascade” cities (replicator cities) Braga, Ljubljana, and Turku. The day continued with a workshop led by Lucian Zagan and organized by Eurocities and FACTUAL on the topic of street space reallocation, focusing on real cases from the pilot cities of Utrecht, Warsaw, Heidelberg, Budapest, and Gothenburg. In the afternoon, participants took part in three peer-learning visits: a walking tour of the city center, a combined walking and cycling audit in the Bergum-Gunnilse area, and an exploration of digital technologies applied to mobility.
The second day opened with a session on impact and evaluation, presented by Dorien Duffner-Korbee and Jonathan Koehler of Fraunhofer ISI, followed by three thematic workshops. The first, led by DEKRA, analyzed urban road safety using data from Barcelona and Heidelberg. The second, conducted by CERTH, delved into inclusivity and accessibility with contributions from Utrecht and Barcelona. The third workshop covered case studies from Bologna and Warsaw, supported by Demos and ICLEI Europe. In the afternoon, additional site visits took place: a cycling tour focused on temporary cycling infrastructure, a visit to the Korsvägen area on traffic planning, and an exploration of the Flexlinjen on-demand public transport service for the elderly.
The third and final day, coinciding with World Environment Day, focused on inclusivity in urban mobility, with a workshop led by University College Dublin dedicated to the gender dimension in public space design.
The third REALLOCATE Consortium Meeting marked a key moment for the project, strengthening the network of European cities committed to the sustainable and inclusive transformation of urban spaces.
