"RICCARDO BACCHELLI" INTERNATIONAL AWARD

The City of Bologna, European City of Culture for the year 2000, established a biennial International Award, the most important in Italy for the contemporary novel in the name of Riccardo Bacchelli, the eclectic and brilliant Bolognese intellectual, well-known in all Europe, who travelled through every literary territory in his life, from the novel to poetry, theatre, literary and musical criticism, journalism and the historical essay.

The prize, supported by the Bologna University, with the High Patronage of the Presidency of the Italian Republic, is awarded to an Italian or foreigner novel by a living author, published in the last five years and already translated into Italian language.

The Mayor of Bologna Giorgio Guazzaloca, also President of the Committee "Riccardo Bacchelli International Award" and President of the Committee for Bologna 2002, will give the award in December of even numbered years.

The award is assigned by a Scientific Committee formed by well-known international figures. For the second edition of the "Riccardo Bacchelli International Award", the committee consists of:
