The Europe Table was established within the framework of the
2024-2027 Strategic Plan for European and International Action of the
Municipality of Bologna, with the aim of bringing the city closer to EU
policies and opportunities. The development process, which also received
funding from the Emilia-Romagna Region through the 2024 Call for the Promotion
of European Citizenship, was based on a participatory method. Over 70 local
stakeholders were engaged through an open call for interest, and 30 were
selected-representing institutions, the third sector, schools, universities,
businesses, and civil society.
Between November and December 2024, three co-design workshops
facilitated by experts defined the principles, structure, and operational
methods of the Table. This process culminated in the drafting of the regulation
and an invitation for the local community to actively participate. Alongside
the Plenary, thematic sub-groups work on economic and social inequalities and
European citizenship education, promoting concrete initiatives in line with the
Table's objectives.The Table's first steps include three main initiatives:
- Participation in "A Square for Europe", a joint event with the Mayors of Bologna and Florence (April 6, 2025, Piazza del Nettuno);
- Europe Day celebrations (May 8-9, 2025), featuring a shared program at the Giorgio Costa Neighborhood House;
- Participation in the 2025 CERV call to support European civic engagement and strengthen the governance of the Europe Table, in collaboration with the cities of Nantes and Cluj.
