TERRAIN - Twinning and Engagement in the Transition of Transport Towards Climate Neutrality
TERRAIN is an
innovative project that promotes sustainable urban mobility in the
Adriatic-Ionian Macroregion. Bologna, selected as a mentor city alongside
Ioannina (Greece), Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Zagreb (Croatia), participates in
this initiative under the coordination of the Hellenic Centre for Research and
Technology. These cities, designated by the EU as Mission Cities and committed
to achieving climate neutrality by 2030, will support the project alongside
five follower cities in the Balkan region from countries in pre-accession to
the European Union: Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Berane (Montenegro),
Pančevo (Serbia), Skopje (North Macedonia) and Durrës (Albania).
TERRAIN
addresses the challenges of climate change, aiming to reduce emissions from car
traffic and enhance public transport and active mobility. The project includes
the involvement of citizens and stakeholders through Living Labs, which will encourage
active participation in the co-development of mobility solutions.
In Bologna, the
pilot action aligns with the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PUMS) and the
General Urban Traffic Plan (PGTU), focusing on supporting the decarbonization
of public transport and the implementation of the 30 km/h city initiative,
which aims to lower speed limits to reduce pollution and accidents while
increasing the livability of urban areas. Among the expected outcomes is a
change in citizen behavior towards more sustainable mobility forms, supported
by a specific communication campaign.
With funding of
€201.555 from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), TERRAIN aims to
make Bologna and the other participating cities more resilient and livable,
contributing to a sustainable future for the Macroregion.
