EUROCITIES

EUROCITIES is the network of major European cities founded in 1986, including today more than 140 cities from 35 different European countries. The network's main objective is to strengthen the key role that local governments should play in a multilevel governance structure, working with the EU institutions to respond to common urban issues and promoting the exchange of information, experiences, staff and best practices among the member cities.
The network is headquartered in the Brussels office, which is currently headed by the secretary general Anna Lisa Boni, from Italy. The Brussels office carries out policy, project, human resources, finance, administration and communications work.

Through six thematic forums, EUROCITIES offers its members a platform for developing projects, activities and events and for sharing knowledge and exchanging ideas: Culture, Economic Development, Environment, Knowledge Society, Mobility, Social Affairs.
The Executive Committee, the governing body of the network, is made up of 12 members and coordinated by a Chair city (now Florence).
The Committee meets at least three times a year and oversees the annual work programme, internal rules and budget, as approved by the annual general meeting (AGM) for each specific activity.

The AGM is a crucial moment, held within the annual conference, which brings together the representatives of all the member cities and where important decisions relating to the network are taken. The 2019 annual conference has taken place in Prague, Czech Republic, on 20-22 November 2019, and next meeting will be held in Leipzig, the German city twinned to Bologna since 1962, from 3rd to 5th November 2021.

The City of Bologna is member of EUROCITIES since 1991; it was President of the network in 1995 and in 1996, and was member of the Executive Committee from 1993 to 1999.
In 2007 and 2008 Bologna led the Knowledge Society Forum, whereas in 2013 and 2014 chaired the Culture Forum.
It currently has no Chair in the network, but Bologna government, through its International Relations and projects Office, takes part in some working group and actively follows all the initiatives and events.
