EUROCITIES is the network of major European cities founded in 1986, including today 130 cities from 35 different European countries.
The network's main objective is to strengthen the key role that local governments should play in a multilevel governance structure, working with the EU institutions to respond to common urban issues and promoting the exchange of information, experiences, staff and best practices among the member cities.
The network is headquartered in the Brussels office, which is currently headed by Anna Lisa Boni, secretary general. The Brussels office carries out policy, project, human resources, finance, administration and communications work.
Through six thematic forums, EUROCITIES offers its members a platform for developing projects, activities and events and for sharing knowledge and exchanging ideas. Each Forum is chaired by a member city:
Culture Forum (Chair: Birmingham, UK)
Economic Development Forum (Chair: Vienna, Austria)
Environment Forum (Chair: Amsterdam, NL)
Knowledge Society Forum (Chair: Eindhoven, NL)
Mobility Forum (Chair: Sofia, Bulgaria)
Social Affairs Forum (Chair: Barcelona, Spain)

The Executive Committee, the governing body of the network, is made up of 12 members and coordinated by a Chair city (now Ghent). The Committee committee meets at least three times a year and oversees the annual work programme, internal rules and budget, as approved by the annual general meeting (AGM).
The AGM is a crucial moment, held within the annual conference, which brings together the representatives of all the members cities and where important decisions relating to the network are .
In 2016, when the 30 year anniversary of the network was celebrated, the annual conference was held in Milan, Italy.
The 2017 annual conference will take place in Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia, on 15-17 November.

The City of Bologna is member of EUROCITIES since 1991; it was President of the network in 1995 and in 1996, and was member of the Executive Committee from 1993 to 1999. In 2007 and in 2008 Bologna led the Knowledge Society Forum, whereas in 2013 and 2014 chaired the Culture Forum.
The International Relations and Projects Office coordinates the participation of Bologna in the various forums, working groups and initiatives of the network.
