Bologna subscribing to Athens Roadmap for Inclusive Growth in Cities

The City of Bologna, represented by Mayor Virginio Merola, is one the 60 subscribers of the Athens Roadmap for Inclusive Growth in Cities, launched on 18 March in Athens by the OECD Champion Mayors coalition: a true charter for the interventions to be done to implement inclusive growth in the cities, including the participatory budget as a best practice of inclusivity implemented also in Bologna.

With the Athens Road Map: Innovation for Inclusive Growth in Cities, the OECD Champion Mayors want to strive to leverage the full potential of innovation to promote policies and practices whereby cities can become places where prosperity is shared, access to opportunity is equitable, and well-being is expanded to all segments of society.
Taking into account the specific local and national contexts, the Champion Mayors commit to work closely with communities, citizens, NGOs, businesses, academia, stakeholders and other levels of government, to fight inequalities and foster inclusive growth in their cities, by improving three main areas: social innovation, technological innovation and public sector innovation.

Prior to the signing ceremony, a meeting was called by the mayor of Athens, to gather the attending European mayors and vice mayors. Among the participating cities: Rotterdam, Braga, Porto and Glasgow, Bologna and Milan.
