Bologna welcomes the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj

On Tuesday, 11 December, the City of Bologna has welcomed a delegation from Tirana, capital of Albania, led by the Mayor Erion Veliaj, who spent a full day in town: many meetings on subjects of mutual interest, to exchange ideas and build up cooperation projects, strengthening the friendship relationship between the two towns.
Mayor Veliaj, a passionate runner, started his visit in the very early morning by running through the City parks of Giardini Margherita and San Michele in Bosco, together with his delegates and a few colleagues of the Bologna Municipality. Later, he was received in the Town Hall by Mayor Merola and General Director Valerio Montalto, who led him to a visit of the institutional halls in the Municipal building and let him sign the Book of Honour of Bologna.
He then met deputy mayors Marco Lombardo and Valentina Orioli, to speak about subjects like public transport and mobility; afterwards, they visited the spaces of Urban Center - Fondazione Innovazione Urbana, where they spoke about urban regeneration and environment projects.
In the afternoon, the Albanian delegation visited the Agro-food park FICO and the CINETECA.

Veliaj’s visit is following up the Bolognese mission to Tirana of last april, when Mayor Merola and a small delegation visited Tirana and met the dynamic Albanian mayor. In that occasion, they were positively struck by the liveliness of Tirana, a city with an averagely young population that has been proving more and more dynamic and open to Europe. There was then a common intention to start up a cooperation, and an oak was planted in sign of friendship between the two cities, inside the tree park designed by Stefano Boeri for the urban planning project called #Tirana030.
