Bologna as UNESCO City of Music welcomes the young music students from Montreal

As part of the friensdhip relations between Bologna and the City of Montreal, Canada, which are both members of UNESCO Creative Cities Network, on May 31st Mayor Merola has officially welcomed in the City Hall the young music students from the Collège d’Einsegnement Général et Professionnel Saint-Laurent in Montreal, who were in Bologna for an exchange with the High School Liceo Musicale L. Dalla. The students from Bologna had flown to Montreal in September 2017 for a week of masterclass and improvers course for their instruments, also thanks to the financial contribution obtained through the Call of proposals, launched by the Bologna UNESCO City of Music to support the internationalisation of Bolognese music.

The exchange between the Canadian college and the Bologna High School had started last year, following the business trip of Mayor Merola, together with the City General Manager Mr. Montalto and the General Manager of Bolognafiere Mr. Bruzzone, to Montreal, in occasion of the Italian National Day. The delegation from Bologna had several meetings then with the City Administration of Montreal, resulting in a number of possible cooperation initiatives to be carried out by the two cities, which were both nominated UNESCO Creative Cities in the year 2006 – Bologna for Music and Montreal for Design.

Thanks to this student exchange, the citizens of Bologna could enjoy two different music events, free and open to the public: the one was the final concert of the Liceo Musicale, held on the 30th May in the Church of Saint Cristina della Fondazza together with the Canadian students, and the other was a concert named titolo Dal Vecchio al Nuovo Mondo (from the Old to the New World), that was held on Friday 1st June in the Church of Saints Bartolomeo e Gaetano, always in the city centre.
