Bologna seen from China: the contest for illustrators
On March 28, in occasion of the 55th International Children Book Fair and right from the large stand of China, who was Guest of Honour country, the Municipality of Bologna has launched a call to all the Chinese Creative Cities of the UNESCO network, to select an illustrator that develops a small book about Bologna, narrating Bologna by images, for the Chinese public.
The winner of the contest will be offered a free residence in Bologna, in fall 2018, for a maximum period of two weeks, when he/she shall produce the print of a small “artist book" that tells about Bologna, also in relation to the tourist strategies of the city, and that will be later presented in Bologna, in 2019, through an exhibition of the original drafts. The model to be taken is the ‘Bologna head up' project by Hamelin, an important local cultural association which will take care of the arrangements for the artist's residence and of the publishing project.
The call, made possible thanks to the contribution of the College of China in Bologna, was sent to all the Chinese members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, i.e.: Bejing, Wuhan, Shenzhen and Shanghai as creative cities for Design; Qingdao, city for Film; Chengdu, Macao and Shunde, cities for Gastronomy; Changsha, city for Media Arts; Jingdezhen, Hangzhou and Suzhou, cities for Crafts and Folk Art. The deadline to apply is 31 May 2018.
