UNESCO welcomes 64 new Creative Cities

On October 31st, 2017, Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, announced the designation of 64 new centres as Creative Cities, showing an enhanced diversity in city profiles and geographical balance: the network (UCCN) is welcoming in fact 19 cities from countries not previously represented.
The UNESCO Creative Cities Network, created in 2004, now counts a total of 180 cities from 72 countries.
Bologna, designated City of Music in the year 2006, gladly welcomes the four Italian Cities: Milan for Literature, Alba for Gastronomy, Carrara for Crafts and Folk Art and Pesaro for Music. These new designations make the number of Italian cities in the network increase up to 23, thus strengthening the attractive ability of Italian culture in the world.
The newly designated cities for Music are 12, thus the Subnetwork reaches now a total of 31. This is quite a nice number to start new shared projects and create synergies, with the final aim to promote music in an innovative and creative way, through its many and varying formsm, and to integrate culture into sustainable and inclusive urban development policies.
