1st UIA Call for Proposals: Bologna among the winners

In occasion of the European Week of Cities and Regions, on Wednesday 12th October in Brussels the European Commission announced the 18 winning cities of the UIA (Urban Innovative Actions) 1st Call for Proposals). After a competitive process that saw 378 proposals submitted in March 2016 from across 24 EU Member States, 18 urban authorities, including the City of Bologna, will have the opportunity to experiment bold and innovative solutions to tackle the challenges linked to urban poverty, integration of migrants and refugees, jobs and skills in the local economy and the energy transition.
With its project named S.A.L.U.S. "W SPACE", W stands for Welcome, Welfare e Wellbeing: the aim is to foster the social, cultural and economic inclusion of migrants integrating different services in a new refurbished centre and allowing migrants to acquire new skills and build micro-enterprises for community services in the neighbourhood - mostly based on the cooperation between local actors and beneficiaries and with the direct involvement of different stakeholders and citizens.
The project partnership is made by 17 subjects, including ASP BOLOGNA and IRS (Institute of Social Research), and has a total budget of 6 millions and 250 thousand Euros, with a 5 million Euros of co-funding from the European Commission. The Institution for Social Inclusion Don Paolo Serra Zanetti, of the Municipality of Bologna, together with the International Relations and Projects Office, will coordinate the project for the next 3 years.
