The City of Bologna was nominated during the 8th UNESCO CCN annual meeting held in Chengdu, China, from 27 to 29 September. For the next two years, it will coordinate the Music sub-network, one of the 7 thematic groups into which the Creative Cities network is divided: beside music, they include design, film, crafts and folk art, gastronomy, literature and digital arts.
After hosting the CCN annual meeting in September 2013, the City of Bologna confirms its leadership within this important international network, as for the next two years it will be part of the Steering Group, which includes the 7 cities heading the related sub-thematic groups.
The meeting in Chengdu, the fourth most populous city in mainland China, was attended by 37 cities as members of the network and 17 cities as candidate members, coming from all over the world.
The participant cities have discussed about the various activities and international exchanges promoted over the past year, highlighting the dynamic spirit and efficiency of the network. Bologna, in particular, can boast a number of activities in the field of Music, realized thanks to the CCN: just to mention a few, the hosting of the Colombian artist Icaro Zorbar, from Bogota – also Creative City for Music -, who performed at the ROBOT Festival in Bologna, to the participation of the Piccolo Coro Athena, from Bologna, in the World Youth Music Festival 2014 in Hamamatsu-Japan -.
The City of Bologna will continue to use its role in this network to promote local excellencies and make new international agreements, in the conviction that culture and creativity hold a great potential for the development of the cultural and economic capitals of the future.
The next CCN annual meetings will be held: in 2015 in Kanazawa, Japan, Creative City for Crafts and Folk Art, and in 2016 in Östersund (Sweden), Creative City for Gastronomy.
