Casa Carducci Library

Located inside the building in which Giosue Carducci lived from 1890 until his death, the library holds a conspicuous collection of cultural memories. It is specialized on the study of Carducci and on the literary culture of the 19th and 20th centuries. It principally includes volumes, brochures, abstracts, reviews, a rich collection of letters, photos, all numbered and catalogued by Carducci himself: 45.000 volumes, 30.000 letters, Carducci's autograph manuscripts, as well as press clippings, journals, and a photographic archive. In 1902, Queen Margherita di Savoia acquired Carducci's rich library/archive to financially support her favourite author and avoid the dispersal of the collection of manuscripts and correspondence. She also acquired from the owners the entire villa, including the surrounding garden. When Carducci died, the Queen donated the house/library to the city of Bologna, which promoted its use for consultation and study of the books and literary material and allowed public to visit the apartment.
