Founded in 1666 by the nobleman Vincenzo Maria Carrati, it has become a point of reference for the city musical life, famous throughout Europe. Its Archives preserve all the admission tests to the Academy, including that of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1770), historical documents and autograph manuscripts by the major composers, such as Scarlatti, Beethoven, Rossini (La Cenerentola), Liszt, Verdi, Puccini, and a rich library and sound archives. The Museum holds pictures, documents and objects concerning the Academy history and an important collection of musical documents.
