The Museum was opened in May 1999 and is located in Palazzo Malvasia, in the Jewish ghetto of the city. It was established with the goal of preserving, studying and enhancing the rich cultural Jewish heritage rooted in the city of Bologna as well as in the rest of the Emilia-Romagna region. The permanent exhibition focuses on the Jewish identity since the Middle Ages to date. The documentation centre is made up of a specialised library and a workstation connected to other similar museums throughout the world.
