Municipal Art Collections

The Museum originated from the decision to re-use the former Apostolic Legate seat and from the need to organise the municipal artistic heritage coming from the city magistracy and from a whole set of acquisitions and bequests. The frescoed halls host a rich heritage of furnishings and works of art dating from the 14th century to the 19th century. In addition to the group of medieval paintings, they hold a few 16th and 17th century paintings (by Aspertini, Passerotti, Carracci), 18th century paintings (by Crespi, Gandolfi, Creti), as well as further 19th century paintings (by Palagi, Hayez, etc.).
