Europe Direct Front Office - Municipality of Bologna
The Europe Direct Front Office of the Municipality of Bologna is an information service window open for free to citizenship. It was established in partnership with the Region of Emilia-Romagna as part of the European network of official information centres, until 2005 named Info Point Europa and rural animation Carrefours. This network is co-ordinated and co-funded by the Directorate-General for Communication of the European Commission.
The partnership agreement provides for the integration of the pre-existing European documentation and information services and the establishment of a two-level structure:
- The Europe Direct Front Office placed at the Public Relation Office (URP) of the Municipality of Bologna: it is a first level info-point providing basic information and general answer-request services;
- The Antenna Europe Direct of the Legislative Assembly of the Region of Emilia-Romagna: it a second level info-point managing more complex requests of consultative nature.
This complementary system of information points combines the consolidated experience of the European Documentation Centre of the Legislative Assembly’s Library – dedicated to European documentation and European law – with the long time experience of the Info Point Europa of the Municipality of Bologna, operating during the 1997-2005 period and co-funded by the European Commission.
The establishment of a European information point at the Public Relation Office integrates the strategy of the Municipality of Bologna on European issues, in particular those ones relating to the field of citizenship.
SERVICES
Information, dissemination, assistance to the public
- General information to the public about EU Institutions, opportunities, policies and European funding programmes;
- Knowledge of EU activities and initiatives though the access to European law and official documents;
- Orientation of users to the regional second-level structure in case of complex requests of consultative nature;
- Distribution of informative materials on EU issues; and
- Contact point with the European Institutions, allowing citizens to submit questions, opinions and suggestions through assisted Internet public access points.
Access to:
- European law databases and Internet web-sites of EU interest;
- Official documents and informative materials published by the EU Institutions;
- Competition and job announcements to work at the EU Institutions;
- Calls for proposal concerning European funding programmes.
References and research activities
Assistance to users in research activities through using European sources (legislation, case-law, bibliographic references, statistics and documents).
Activities and initiatives
- Promotion of citizens’ awareness initiatives – particularly for schools and civil society – about EU issues;
- Support to the public debate and media interest on EU policies;
- Web publishing activity and collaboration with local and national publishing initiatives.
